Runway pricing: a finished minute of Gen-4.5 costs 720 credits

Runway pricing sells a monthly credit balance, and Gen-4.5 draws 12 credits for every second it generates, so a finished minute costs 720 credits. What that minute costs in dollars depends on which plan bought the credits, and the spread runs $5.76 to $17.28. Prices read in USD on 9 October 2026 from an Indian connection and a US one, which served the same card.

Key takeaways

  • Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits per second of output, so a finished minute is 720 credits on any plan.

  • That minute costs $17.28 on Standard monthly, $11.20 on Pro, $7.20 on Max and $5.76 on Max yearly, because a credit is worth 2.4x more on Standard than on Max.

  • Pro and Max carry Unlimited Mode, which generates on supported models without spending credits, in exchange for a slower queue and fewer jobs at once.

  • Only Max and Team roll credits over, by one month. Standard and Pro forfeit the balance on the billing date.

What Runway actually meters

Runway meters one credit across video, image and audio, and converts video to credits per second of output at a rate each model sets. The developer docs publish the whole card, and the web app runs on the same rates.

20 / 30 / 68

Resolution behaves differently per model. WAN 3.0 doubles at each step, so the bill tracks pixel count, while Gen-4.5 charges 12 credits a second at every resolution. Seedance 2.5 jumps 2.3x from 720p to 1080p and carries an 80 credit floor, so a two second clip costs what a four second one does.

That card is the better half of Runway's disclosure. The weaker half is the pricing page, where the Standard and Pro cards price Gen-4 Turbo at 6 credits a second while the Max card and the docs say 5.

How credits work

Rollover depends on the plan, and most plans don't get it. Standard and Pro forfeit unused monthly credits on the billing date. Max and Team roll over up to one month. Purchased credits never expire, and the Free plan's 125 credit deposit never refreshes once spent.

Spending order is fixed: this month's plan credits first, then rollover, then purchased. That's the right way round, because it spends the balance that would otherwise lapse.

Top-ups cost $0.01 a credit with a 1,000 credit minimum, the same rate the API charges, so a purchased credit is worth exactly what a Max credit is. Free accounts can't buy any, and on Team only admins can.

Unlimited Mode is the mechanic worth knowing. On Pro and Max it generates on supported models without touching credits, at the same output quality, in exchange for slower starts in busy periods and fewer simultaneous jobs. Legacy subscribers keep the older Explore Mode until 30 November 2026.

What happens when you hit the limit

Generation stops, unless you've armed Auto Refill. Runway checks the balance first, so a request you can't afford refuses to run rather than half-rendering. Free accounts get an upgrade prompt.

Auto Refill turns that block into a charge. You set an amount per recharge, a monthly spend ceiling and a balance threshold, and when a generation would drop you below it Runway bills the card and the job continues. Email alerts fire on each success and failure.

Pro and Max have a fallback that costs nothing: switch to Unlimited Mode and keep generating at a slower queue position. Admins can also cap a workspace so a pool can't drain unexpectedly.

Flexprice’s Take

Runway publishes a rate card good enough to budget against, then sells the credits at six different prices and never prints the number a buyer is choosing between.

The metering is clean. A credit buys a second of output at a published rate, failed work doesn't bill, and the Task Cost API hands the realized cost back, so a platform reselling Runway can meter its own users. Unlimited Mode answers iteration cost well, trading queue position for a free draft.

What the page won't tell you is that the same minute of Gen-4.5 costs $17.28 on Standard monthly and $5.76 on Max yearly. Both are 720 credits. Only the credit's price moved. A buyer weighing Runway against Kling AI or HeyGen is comparing a number Runway declines to print. For scale, HeyGen renders a finished minute of avatar video for $1.50 on its $29 plan.

Best For

Teams on Max or Team, where a credit costs $0.01 and matches the API rate exactly.

Watch Out For

Standard, where every credit costs 2.4x what the same credit costs on Max.
